Friday Fancies

Hi there! I have been way MIA on the blog but of course there is no better way to get back into blogging than joining a link up. Since it's Friday, I am linking up with {av} for a fall inspired outfit. If I had an unlimited budget, I would definitely have this entire outfit in wardrobe.

Getting Artsy

Saturday I took a painting class at a JoAnn fabric and craft store. The class was for this new style of painting called Social Artworking. I was the only person signed up for the class and my "instructor" thought the class started at 1 when it actually started at 12. I put quotes around instructor because she didn't instruct me much with what to do. I could have saved my money and just used the instructions that came with the pattern since all she really did was read the instructions to me. But I had a good time and came out with a cute piece of art I'm going to hang up.
Easy Steps:
It's pretty simple to do: you pick a pattern and then you trace it on to carbon paper then you trace it again onto your canvas and you start painting. After about 2 hours I had painted this...
It's not perfect but I'm ok with that. It was my first time painting anything so I think I did alright. I just love the design! Since I love baking cupcakes I thought this painting was perfect. On the website you can see there are a bunch of different designs to choose from. They also recommend have a girl's night in painting party. I think that would be a fun idea to get a couple of friends together and paint some fun pictures for your home!

Ten Years Ago

Ten years ago when I woke on Tuesday September 11th, 2001, it was about 7:00am when I turned on the tv to see what the weather was going to be like for the day so I could dress accordingly for school. When I turned on the tv, the second tower was just collapsing. I had no idea what was going on. It all looked fake, as if it was from some movie.

I got dressed and my mom was sitting in the living room and I told her about the crash. She said she knew about the WTCs but not the Pentagon. She turned on the tv as I was leaving for school. When I drove to school none of the radio stations were music. I got to school and my first class was spanish. We convinced our teacher to turn on the tv. My next class was government and I remember my friend who wasn't even in my class just came in the classroom and wanted to hear what my teacher was saying about the attacks. My last class of the day was photography and my teacher had the tv on through the whole class so we could watch. I remember coming home and just being glued to the tv. This is so

I know being on the opposite side of the country some of us here didn't know how this really impacted us. Flight 93 was headed to SFO so people that were on that flight did live here. After these attacks there was a lot of speculation that some of the landmarks and buildings in San Francisco were targets. Luckily we were safe from any attacks.

I always think about how our lives have changed since that day. I am thankful for the men and women who fight to keep our country safe. God Bless America.

Princess Couture

I haven't talked much about my love for Disney. I was at Disneyland last weekend and had to refrain from buying many things. The Disney Store has a lot of cute items I had to share.

First is the Kidada for Disney Store collection designed by Kidada Jones. The Wish-A-Little Collection is a reminder to love a little, dream a little, laugh a little and wish a little. The collection is full of jewelry and clothing with Kidada's unique princess designs.

My favorite princess, Belle. Each figure holds a charm necklace that complements the character.

 Snow White Tee

After I finish the Tinkerbell Half Marathon I may have to buy this.

The collection is inspired by the fashion illustrations of the 1950’s and 1960’s when fashion was all about glamour. The idea behind the Disney Princess Designer Collection was to re-imagine the princesses with a retro, vintage feel with a modern twist. The collection mainly features a Princess doll release every Monday but there are also a couple of fun items.

Set of Princess-Inspired Nail Polishes.

Princess Note Cards. I love these and think they would be cute to frame and put them up.

What girl doesn't want to be a princess?
Who is your favorite princess?

Little M.I.A.

I haven't posted since last weekend! So last weekend was exhausting! A full recap is to come once I get all my pictures. Sorry I've been M.I.A. I have missed you guys!

This week I have been trying to wake up earlier so I can get to work earlier and therefore leave work earlier so far it has been good. I'm just hoping to keep it up and make it a regular thing. We are coming up to busiest time of the year and I do not want to be staying late to get things done. I would much rather get here earlier. That snooze button just gets in my way.

I'm bummed because we were going to go to a concert on Sunday up in Sacramento but it's sold out! It's ok though, it just means I can watch football all day. I also really want to go shopping. Hopefully I can make my way out to Nordies to pick up some TOMS, my coworker convinced me yesterday I need a pair or two. Whenever I think about going shopping at the mall this song pops into my head.

School Pride

It's nothing personal, it's college football.

We all have strong allegiances to our alma mater and those feelings are always stronger on Saturdays in the fall. I shared some pictures with you last weekend but today I wanted to fill you in on some of the traditions of USC Trojan football.

Traditions are so important here at SC that our on-campus bar is called Traditions or more affectionately known as Traddies. We are located in the heart of downtown L.A. but walking around campus you would never guess that's where you are.

At the center of campus you will find Tommy Trojan.
He is doing the impossible: flexing all his muscles at once. We wrap him up in duct tape the week before our game against (F)UCLA so they don't do anything to him. One of the student orgs, the Trojan Knights, stand guard day and night and protect from any Bruins so nothing like this happens to our statue.
Besides Tommy Trojan we have a couple other mascots. Traveler is the beautiful white horse that makes an appearance at all home football games prior to kickoff, whenever we score a touchdown, and at the start of the fourth quarter. Between the third and fourth quarters, Traveler, will make his way down the sideline to the south endzone and the Trojan Warrior riding Traveler will point his sword towards the Olympic Torch to light it.

In the 1940s, George Tirebiter, a dog, becaome the school's unofficial mascot. He would chase down cars on Trousdale Parkway, which used to let car drive through campus. Now a statue of George stands at the west end of Trousdale, facing the street of course, so we can watch the cars pass by on the street.

After passing George Tirebiter you will come across 3 flagpoles. Tradition is to kick the bottom of the flagpole on your way to the Coliseum. I always kick the one of the far right.
We play our home games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Coliseum was the site of the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games. Two hours before kickoff, the team will arrive by bus from the hotel they stay at the night before home games and walk by the fans outside the gate and enter the Coliseum. They walk through the peristyle and down the original steps of the Coliseum (in the picture, it's the part below the Bud Light sign). They will meet in the middle of the field as a team before heading to the locker room.

Right before kickoff, the Spirit of Troy, our marching band will take the field. But first the drum major walks out onto the field and sticks his sword in the middle of the field to get everybody on the feet.

And then the music starts...

The men of Troy take come out of the tunnel and then we are ready for kickoff!

I hope you have fab gamedays! xoxo

Flying South

Today we are off on a whirlwind mini-trip to Southern California. By the time you read this I will be in the friendly skies. I chose to do the hour plane ride rather than the six hour car ride which ended up being a great idea since we have done a ton of driving the past few weekends with going to Tahoe and Santa Cruz.

The main objectives of this trip are to run a 5k at Disneyland and go to the USC football game which are both tomorrow. Call us crazy! We are flying back after the game since it's at 12:30 (Boo! Who likes 12:30 games? Nobody!) I know the moment I get home tomorrow I will get into bed and fall asleep.
We definitely did not train enough for the 5k but I am more doing it for the experience rather than getting a certain time. As long as I finish, I don't care what my time is. It's a fun run so you don't have a timing chip or anything. (I made a counter to today for the 5k which is at the bottom of the page.) I think doing the 5k will light a fire under me to seriously start training for the Tinkbell Half Marathon I've signed up for in January. When you run a race at Disneyland you get to go "backstage" behind the doors so I am looking forward to that. I have actually been "backstage" once when my high school band went to Disneyland and played there.

Today we are going to Disneyland for a few hours so I can finally ride the new Star Tours ride. The theme for the 5k is actually Star Tours.
For those headed to games tomorrow, remember it will be a long day. I'm definitely excited to see my school again. It's been 2 years since I was back and they built all these new buildings on campus. Hoping for a big win to start the season off right!

And since posts are always better with pictures here are a couple of things that combine my weekend activities! I actually have both.

Have a great weekend! xoxo
