Oh Mama!

My mother is one funny lady. Yesterday was no exception.

First, we went to church and when we get in the car to go home she asks me if I saw the young man who was sitting in front of her. I told her that I had (Of course I had seen him; he was by himself, no ring on his left finger, cute- how could I not notice?) and then she proceeds to tell me the following: "You know the other night I was thinking and hoping that you would find a nice Catholic boy at church. And here is this guy, you know he said his little prayers and gave his checks during collection. I don't know if he was your type but he seemed like a good guy." How funny is she that she was totally checking him out during the whole mass? (But so was I.) Hopefully I see him again. We sit in the same general area every time so hopefully he sits near us again and she can make small talk with him or something in her cute motherly way.

We were watching the Oscars and there were some great quotes of hers I had to share.

During the opening video montage when Anne and James are sitting at the table with Leo from Inception, my mom says, "Wait, I don't remember them being in the movie." Oh Mama!

Later during the show she asks, "Was 127 hours about the Chilean miners?" Oh Mama!

There was one more but I can't remember it but it was just as funny as the other two.She is so funny but not very up to date with the movie industry. I love her so much!!!

In other news, guess what?! I have 25 followers!!! That means it's giveaway time! I'm going to post about the giveaway tomorrow so get ready to enter! I hope you guys like what I plan on giving away!

5 Things I Can't Live Without....

cRk at Preppy Lane tagged me for 5 things I can't live without.
Since I did one for my daily necessities here, I decided to do 5 Things I Can't Live Without on an airplane.

1. Fiji Water Bottle. I get really dehydrated on long plane rides and since they only use those tiny cups on aiplanes I buy a bottle before I board. I love Fiji water since the bottle is always the perfect size for a flight.

2. Ipod Nano. I can't survive without music on a plane so this is essential for me. I'm weird because I will watch the movie that is playing on the plane but usually just listen to my ipod.

3. Neck pillow and Eyemask. Airplane pillows and blankets gross me out. So I bring my own pillow to try to sleep. I'll put the eyemask on but after about 20 minutes of just sitting there I take them off because I can never  fall asleep on airplanes even though I wish I could.

4. Snacks. This is general thing because I'll get hunger on flights and I like to bring my own because I have been on flights that giveaway funky snack mixes that taste weird.

5. US Weekly. I subscribe to the magazine and usually read it whenever I get it. But whenever I go on vacation I will save it and read it on the plane. Just one of my little quirks.

Thanks cRk for tagging me,  so sweet of you!.

I'm tagging:
Katy at Heart & Sole

Hope you all had a fabulous week

Princess Project

Today I am volunteering for The Princess Project!

The Princess Project is a organization that collects formal dresses and provides them free of charge to high-school girls who otherwise cannot afford them. There are different days to volunteer. Today I'm helping with the dress sort which is where we go through the dresses that have been donated and put them on the racks according to size and color. In a few weeks, I will be doing a dress giveaway day. I did this last year and it was so fun. The dress sort is fun since you get to go through all the dresses and see how crazy some of them are and how pretty others are. One thing I learned while volunteering is how heavy formal dresses are! I definitely give it up to the ladies on "Say Yes to the Dress." The dress giveaway day I volunteered at last year was crazy hectic but so fun and rewarding. I worked at the "check-out" station so I was able to see all the girls leave with their dresses. They were all so happy and so grateful to be able to have a dress. It was such a rewarding experience and you can't help be feel happy after volunteering there!

Flashback Fridays - Kids Incorporated

I'm linking up for Flashback Fridays up with Beth at Sweet Bef's for Flashback Friday!

One of my absolutely favorite tv shows as a kid was Kids Incorporated.

If you are not familiar with the show it was this wholesome series about a group of kids who were in a band and performed at The Place. Of course they dealt with the usual kid drama and every issue was solved in the 30 minute program. One of the best things about the show was its theme song.

If you didn't figure it out, Stacy Ferguson grew up to be Fergie! The show also produced such stars as Jenniifer Love Hewitt (when she was just know as Love Hewitt) and Mario Lopez. The show had a revolving cast of kids but Stacy was on it the longest. I miss wholesome shows like this one.

This clip shows an adorable little Stacy, awesome 80s fashion, and Mario Lopez on the drums!

Do any of you remember this show?
Hope you all have a great weekend!

I'm Playing J.T.

I'm linking up again for What I'm Playing Thursday with Sarah @ Belle in the City!

A lot of times, I like to put my ipod nano on shuffle. For some reason I always get a lot of Justin Timberlake songs whenever I put the ipod on shuffle. I really loved his first album (even though I blame him and it for *N SYNC "breaking up"). Here are some of my favorites from his first album...

I love the style of this song. I wouldn't mine being his senorita.

This is one of my go-to dance songs. It always make me want to get up and move.

I love his voice in this song. Its one of my favorite songs to sing in my car.

I know he's into making movies right now but I really want him to make another album soon.

What are you playing today? Link up and let us know!

What I'm Loving Wednesday

Linking up with Jamie at this kind of love once again for What I'm Loving Wednesday.

I'm loving the book Pretty in Plaid by Jen Lancaster. I started reading it Sunday night and it is so funny. I love the way she writes because it is very blog-like. I can't wait to read more.

I'm loving that Ubertwitter is back now as UberSocial (follow me @jessicasr23). I was not a fan of the Twitter app for Blackberry. Uber is much more user friendly in my opinion.

I'm loving the new issue of Allure. It is the magazine's 20th anniversary issue and it is so thick. I'm going to have to spend a couple hours reading it all. Plus Posh is on the cover! Such an appropriate choice!

I'm loving the Vineyard Vines bangle I received yesterday. I love the color and the little whales on it. So cute!

I'm loving that the Amazing Race is back. This is one of my favorite shows to watch. I've watched every season. I especially love that it's kind of an all star season with teams that didn't win and they have a second chance. One of my favorite teams ever is back: Jet and Cord, the adorable cowboys!

I'm loving my family as always.

High School Rant

The title of the post may be a bit misleading because the rant isn't really about high school but rather people's perception of my high school. For the purposes of this post I will use the following abbreviations: CP = high school I attended and NG/LL = high school of girl in my rant.

A local magazine came out with an article today which showed different stats of area high schools and CP did pretty well and I was proud. People in the area always think CP isn't a good school but I think it is. Sure it's a little on the older side and doesn't have modern buildings but it is always what's on the inside that counts, right? The school is big. According to the article is currently has 2,034 students. I don't think we had that many kids there when I went but probably around 1600-1700. A lot of my classmates when to excellent colleges and universities and kids who graduated after me went to even better ones (i.e. Harvard).

Here comes the rant part. This girl I met at an alumni meeting for my college was talking to me and telling me about her 3 year old. She told me she wants to move because if she doesn't her daughter will go to CP. First of all, your daughter is 3 how do you know what CP or any other school will be like in 10 years when she actually starts high school? This girl went to NG or LL, I can't remember, but they are pretty much the same school. I got into the same college as you did but went to CP. She graduated college before I even started so it means the admissions rates probably were lower. So how can she tell me that CP is not a good school.

Of course there are some teachers that aren't the best. But there are some that are great. I feel you get what you put in. I wanted to tell this girl what I truly felt but didn't because I didn't want to seem rude even though I felt she was. I understand people are always entitled to their own opinions but I think this girl could be a little bit less judgemental in her situation.

I'm glad I got that off my chest. It has been bugging me for a while. This actually happened months ago. Thanks for listening!

Five Things

Simply Southern Me tagged me for The Five Things You Can't Live Without! Thank you for tagging me! <3

My five things are my blackberry, water bottle, chapstick, sunglasses, and gum. Each is necessary for me. Obviously, my blackberry is my lifeline to connections so I need it. I love these sunglasses I actually have a pair in black and another one in brown. I'm obsessed with pearly white teeth so I will always pop some Trident White gum in after I have coffee or any food or drink that can stain my teeth. If I don't use chapstick my lips get really dry but I'm always losing them. I have like 10 different chapsticks scattered around so whenever I need one there's usually one around. Finally, my water bottle is essential because I drink water the majority of the time. I like using a reusuable bottle to cut down on waste.

What are 5 things you can't live without? I'm tagging eveybody who hasn't done this yet. I want to know so share with us!

One down, Eleven to go

One of my new year's goals was to read 12 books this year. If you are a reader (which I am not) this seems very achievable. Since I've probably only read 12 books in the last 4 years, it's quite the feat for me. I picked 12 books so I could read a book a month. I just finished my first book of the year. Two months into the year and one book down. So I am behind on my goal but I'm not going to get discouraged and just keep going.

I bought Pretty in Plaid at Target a few weeks ago so I am going to start on that next. It looks like a fun read. It's a memoir written by Jen Lancaster. She has a few others out so I guess if I like this one I will probably pick those up as well.

I know I also want to read Something Borrowed before the movie comes out so I will probably read that next.

Do you have any good book recommendations? Let me know!

Friday Five

Alex over at Ruffles, Ribbons & Bows, Oh My! (such a cute blog name) is having a new linkup called Friday Five. There aren't really any rules as to what you post about; just 5 things you love, what your weekend plans are, etc.

1. I plan on FINALLY finishing Last Night at Chateau Marmont. I am way behind on my reading.

2. I picked up two new Essie pink polishes.

I already painted my nails with the Pansy color and I love it!

3. If you follow me on twitter then you know how sad I was to find out they suspended ubertwitter. I loved the layout of ubertwitter and I loved that I could customize the color to pink to match my pink blackberry. Hopefully they can get it back up and running.

4. I have chili cooking in the crockpot right now and it should be close to being done. But of course I didn't have enough of one ingredient so hopefully it tastes semi-good.

5. I got a new raincoat today which I happy about since it's been raining here all week. Now all I need are some rain boots.

Go linkup with Alex for Friday Five. Hope everybody has a fabulous weekend!

What I'm Playing is Jack

Linking Up for What I'm Playing Thursday.

Photobucket

Today I'm playing one of my favorite musicians: Jack Johnson. He's such a cutie, lives in Hawaii, likes to surf, plays the guitar, and cares and the enviroment. What else can you ask for?

When I was in Hawaii for work (yes, work) the restaurant/bar in our hotel had this song on loop so you would hear like 4 times in an hour. It always reminds me of the fun we had there.

I think this video is so funny with Andy Samberg.

Since it's all gloomy and rainy here today, I wanted to see this video since I love the ocean part of it. It looks so beautiful and I wish I was there instead of here right now! And he just looks so cute with Curious George.

What are you playing this Thursday?

What I'm Loving Wednesday

I'm linking up with Jamie @ this kind of love for What I'm Loving Wednesday.

I'm loving these espadrilles I got from Land's End. I have been looking for espadrilles that didn't have that high of a heel since I feel I sometimes tower over people even though I'm not super tall. I got them in the mail yesterday and was so happy they fit. They are a wee bit big but I'm going to put in some padding in the back so they won't fall off.

I'm loving the Black Team on the Biggest Loser. I like rooting for the underdog I guess. But I was happy for Arthur who had a big weight loss this week to ensure his team's safety. (If you haven't watched this episode yet...sorry!). They also have Bob and Jillian, enough said.

I'm loving the Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Dark-Circle Roller. I have really bad dark circles and this really helps conceal them. It also has this cooling effect when you roll it on your skin.

I'm loving that I got a Starbucks gift card from my credit card points. I don't feel as guilty getting Starbucks when I use a gift card instead of cash or my ATM card.

I'm loving my family as always.

Feeling Loved and Top 2 Tuesday

While I don't have a boyfriend, I definitely felt the love yesterday. My parents just gave me money which isn't a fun Valentine gift but it's still something. My daddy made us girls (me, my mom, and my sister) a really nice dinner. My sister got me a few things. She got me these cute Valentine light up cups one of Mickey &; Minnie and the other of Snoopy. She also got me a mini-box of chocolates, a necklace from Forever 21, Red & Yellow Tic-Tacs, and the movie When In Rome. It was a pretty low key night and I just enjoyed one of the heart cupcakes I made and watched Greek (I can't believe there are only 3 more episodes left...so sad).

I decided to link for Top 2 Tuesday today since it's the Top 2 Grammy Fashions.

1. Selena Gomez. She looked beautiful! I loved everything about her look. She didn't look trashy like others her age (aka Miley Cyrus) and she look so put together and appropriate for her age and the event.

2. Keri Hilson. I love the color of this dress with her skin tone. It's such a fun mini-dress that works perfectly for the Grammys. I really want the clutch she has.

If you want to share your top 2 Grammy Dresses, then link up here!
Hope you all had a fun Valentine's Day with whoever you spent it with!
